How to check an SSL certificate expiration date
Three quick ways to see when a website's SSL/TLS certificate expires: online checker, browser padlock and openssl.
Every HTTPS certificate has a fixed "Not After" date. After that, browsers show a full-page warning and most visitors leave.
1. Use an online checker
Type the domain into the box on our home page. You get the expiry date, days left, issuer, chain and TLS version in about a second.
2. In your browser
Click the padlock (or "site information") icon → Connection is secure → Certificate is valid. The "Expires on" field is the date you want.
3. From the command line
echo | openssl s_client -connect example.com:443 -servername example.com 2>/dev/null | openssl x509 -noout -enddate
Tip: set a reminder at least 14 days before expiry. Our checker can export a calendar (.ics) reminder for you.
